The king summoned four people to his elaborate throne room to assign them a quest. Lakara, a scholar who has spent almost her entire life in the palace. Davorin, the best and youngest known necromancer in the land. Sir Jors, a knight who has served for ten years, but who may have been rendered a liability and is on his last chance. Kita, an outsider and thief who is given the choice of going on the quest or being executed. All four are ordered to find the Jewel of Ishni, a gem with no powers of its own but desired by the gods who fought over it. To prevent the fighting, the head god hid the jewel somewhere only mortals could go and gave every god one clue to find the jewel. Each god has hidden the clue in one of their temples. In order to find each of the clues, the companions must travel through the Endless Grasslands, the Ocean of Sand, the Mountains of Death, the Sea of Tears, the Forests of Gloom, and the Dead Lands. This is not as easy as it sounds.
With no trust and every one of them concealing secrets that could mean death or failure, they must learn to work together or Death may claim them all.
