Jack the Cat

This "Kid Approved" rhyming holiday story relates Jack the Cat's activities during the Twelve Days of Christmas in balmy Florida. Jack "snow" skis down sand dunes, gets trapped in a gingerbread house, sings in a Christmas choir, marches with elves, and volunteers at the local cat shelter. As Jack's young friend Corey says: "Jack does crazy things at Christmas!"

Jack the Cat: Christmas in Florida is a rhyming story is based on the well-known Christmas song "Twelve Days of Christmas." On the seventh day of Christmas, Jack "marches with the elves" -- and on the the eighth day, he "helps to stock the shelves" of the local cat shelter.

Joan Michelson's whimsical illustrations bring a smile to kids, their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and everyone interested in adding a little more joy to the holiday season by reading a special book to a child. "Auntie Joan" has created art in every form for her entire life. Her bold, elemental illustrations are influenced by Chagall, Matisse and Hockney. Joan has mothered many pets in her life, but her feline housemate Jack the Cat is one of her favorites. His antics are the inspiration for the Jack the Cat stories.

Debora Emmert (Nonna Debora) grew up on a farm with cats and a dog, a pony and horse, sheep, cows, and pigs. She loved the dog and tolerated the cats. (She thought they were sneaky.) But then she met Jack. She thinks he's the coolest cat ever, and sees him every chance she gets. His entertaining adventures inspired her to collaborate with her friend Joan to create s series of storybooks about Jack's daily life and escapades.
