The Beat Rhymers Curriculum is designed to empower teachers to create a space of open collaboration, artistic creativity, and mutual respect in the classroom. Bridging Education & Art Together (BEAT Global) is a NYC-based non-profit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of youth by empowering artists to build community through creative self-expression rooted in advancing Hip Hop culture. Yogi Guyadin is an artist and educator with more than ten years of experience teaching music, poetry, and theatre in schools throughout NYC. In partnership with BEAT, he saw a problem that needed solving: arts programming, when it did exist in public schools, was not actually reflective of the cultures and interests of the students! The solution: a revolutionary cypher-based pedagogy that redefines the roles of teacher and student by placing youth at the helm of education, empowering them to pursue the art that matters to them.

Hear what these artists and educators have to say about the Beat Rhymers Curriculum:

What is innovative about the program are the principles that are taught within the musical skills they learn-fairness, listening, discipline, honouring your truth. – Toni Blackman, Rapper, Actress, Writer, Founder of Freestyle Union, and first Hip Hop Ambassador to the U.S. State Department

The BEAT curriculum is fire! It allows youth to live their art and express their creativity. – Mutulu Olugbala aka M1 of dead prez, MC, ARTivist, and Co-CEO & Executive Producer of JLove & M1 Productions
