The Real Cuba is the intriguing story of this American family’s life in Banes, Cuba in the 1940s and 1950s before the Cuban Revolution. The family lived and worked on an American sugar plantation 400 miles from Havana in one of the rural provinces which is why the author says the Cuban countryside is the real Cuba .
