Mystery, mayhem, mystique. It’s 1991. Kathleen Lang is returning to graduate school for the fall semester after a short trip home. Against her better judgment, she travels late at night and winds up inside an eerie convenience store in search of a caffeine fix. There, she is spooked by an angry voice. Unsure if she has walked in on a robbery, Kat quickly leaves the store and races home to her college apartment. Along the way, she sees a man in a ski mask who might be following her. The next morning, Kat and her roommate Suzanne watch the news and learn that the convenience store owner has been shot. Kat tells Suzanne about the strange events of the night before and Suzanne suggests that Kat keep quiet and not tell the police. A series of unusual events unfolds involving Kat’s bizarrely behaving roommate, Suzanne. Kat suspects Suzanne is involved in something illegal relating to the convenience store, but hesitates to confide in police officers Bianco and Heller for fear of incriminating herself. With friend Kerri by her side, Kat attempts to solve the mystery that she has mistakenly walked into. Their mission leads them directly into peril, forcing Kat to face her innermost fears and culminating in an astonishing epiphany where Kat learns that things are not always as they appear.
