Set at a local newspaper shortly after the turn of the 21st century, trainee journalist Simon Turner goes on a dark journey as he tries to expose drugs and sex scandals at the heart of a criminal council. With a hostile council refusing to pass on stories, Turner spends the night desperately searching for the front page of his edition of the paper. Defeated and facing the prospect of the sack the next morning, he smashes his fist against the council chairman’s shop window in frustration, and watches in horror as the glass shatters into thousands of pieces. After making a getaway, he arrives at work the next day with the intention of handing in his resignation for failing to find a front page. But he is greeted by an excited news editor who tells him to cover a possible vendetta attack against the unpopular council leader’s shop. With his career saved by a rash act, Turner finds himself seduced into repeating criminal actions to create stories, as he goes after bullying council leader, Tom Ripley. Each manufactured story drags him further into criminality as he duels for survival with the Chairman Ripley until one of them faces paying the ultimate price.
