Blood Memories

It is 1860 in a village near Niagara Falls, Canada. Childhood friends Donald Forbes and Jessie MacKay dream of following in their father’s footsteps. Jessie is determined to become a horse doctor in spite of being told that no one will bring their injured animals to be treated by a woman. Donald wants to be a surgeon like his father, but he lacks the grades he needs to enter medical school. The American Civil War offers them both an opportunity to pursue their dreams, but at what cost? Loosely based on letters from Donald to his parents, Blood Memories follows a young boy who matures over the course of four short years. Jessie is a strong-minded and independent young woman enamored with Donald but unwilling to tell him. Only when Donald realizes his own strength and purpose in life can he reciprocate Jessie’s feelings.
