Set in a fictional representation of medieval Iceland, "The Sagas of Windholm" is composed of four stories that mimic the elements common to the cultural and literary traditions of Iceland in the Middle Ages. Think Vikings, with less raiding and more writing. The stories are connected via the same narrator; a storyteller voicing the heroic tales of their homeland to a group of children. The author, Erik Upper, is a medievalist turned writer from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. He wrote this book as a sort of farewell to his former life, where he spent his time studying medieval civilizations, particularly those of Scandinavia. Medieval Iceland was home to one of the most interesting political and social landscapes of the Middle Ages, all of which is on display in "The Sagas of Windholm". If you have any interest in medieval writing, or the Middle Ages in general then this book is an easy recommendation.
