Thirteen-year-old Daniel Barker is a typical boy, except that he has a magical book from Egypt which gives him 99 wishes. This Scrivener book was passed down from his grandmother to his mother to him. He receives it on his tenth birthday. The rules in the book say that the wishes must be used to make the world a better place. If not, the Mummy’s Blight will be awakened. To make a wish, Daniel must write a hashtag and then the wish.
In primary school Dan is like a superhero, doing lots of great things to help animals and people in the community. Then he goes to high school. Things start off well, and he becomes known as Dan the Man. Peer pressure to use the wishes as pranks then takes over. To try and stop the continual pressure, Daniel decides to write a wish which sets a fire near the school tuckshop. He hopes this will also impress Charmaine, the cutest cheerleader who has shown an interest in him. This sets off a chain of events which Daniel has to try and stop. The warning verse in the Scrivener book starts to glow and Daniel knows he is in deep trouble.
Is it the Mummy’s Blight and how will Dan stop his favourite teacher from becoming a zombie?
