Born in 1938, Chuck Kruger grew up in rural upstate New York but left the United States for political reasons in the 1960s and then worked for many years as a teacher in Switzerland. In 1992 he and his wife Nell made their home in Cape Clear, Ireland’s southernmost island, where he began to devote himself full-time to writing.

Moments reflects beautifully the rich tapestry of his life, ranging from his accounts of his idyllic childhood traipsing around old Iroquois hunting and burial grounds to his all-consuming engagement with the landscape and people of Cape Clear. These memoirs show Chuck Kruger’s skills as an essayist, storyteller, and poet at their best. Above all, they bring the reader face to face with someone whose work and life is driven by a spirituality that springs from a deep love of and respect for nature. Kaleidoscopic and wide ranging, they never fail to fascinate.
