Alexa Samson’s life is a struggle, but this year she is determined not to care. As the twenty-first century trundles into gear, sixteen-year-old Alexa has only two years left of school. Two years until she can piece her shattered family together. All she has to do in the meantime is survive. She just wished it was as simple as it sounded. Forced to live apart from her fourteen-year-old, heroin-addicted sister and attend the draconian Redgrove College, Alexa is subjected to a world to which she does not belong and a life she cannot control. When her affair with the teacher she trusted to help see her through Redgrove turns violent, her life is plunged into chaos and she is forced into the realm of another teacher who she fears she cannot trust. Alexa’s only beacon of hope is the nightmare that has plagued most of her life and the miracle it suddenly promises of being able to transform her life when she turns eighteen. Until then, Alexa is forced to take whatever actions necessary to try and survive and secure a decent life for her and her sister.
