Lucela Jessup is an African-American domestic in the 1950’s. Despite her philandering husband’s shortcomings, Lucela is a pillar of the community. She is a quiet woman, who uses her culinary skills to create a bond between two familes that is strengthened through tragedy, death, and the birth of a special child.
