The Blues and Ballet

The second entry in the series featuring the attorney Samuel Locke. If a lawyer’s client is measured by the size of the legal fees paid, the blues musician Thumper Lee is Sam’s best client. Thumper hires Sam to protect and represent Angelique Cambray, a dancer with the Houston Ballet. Angelique’s home has been broken into and property has been destroyed. It’s more than a routine crime because a dead body has become involved. To find out what’s going on, Sam looks into Angelique’s life. His investigation leads him from Houston to New Orleans and from the swamps of East Texas forests to unsavory bars on the coast. He even looks back to the music scene of Paris in the fifties. Along the way, Sam must untangle everybody’s family secrets. He encounters dangerous greed, criminals ready to kill without hesitation, a vengeful gangster, and an alligator named Sampson. Sam calls on his investigators Rocky Wallace and Rocky’s niece, Jenny. He enlists the help of his best friend Preacher. Together they race to solve the mystery before more people die.
