The Sing Song Child is a love story, set in the year 1574, about a wealthy but handicapped boy (Andrew) and a poor peasant girl (Sophie). The book unfolds with Andrew and Sophie seeing each other from a distance and then goes into the different lives of both children. Parents, friends and workers are introduced as life unfolds in this time period. Andrew’s biological mother passed away when he was an infant. He was adopted by kind and loving parents unable to have children of their own; Sophie’s mother is trapped in an abusive marriage of necessity to a cruel and harsh man who tries to molest his stepchildren.
