Beans, Biscuits, Family and Friends: Life Stories by Bill Goodman is a series of essays highlighting life in rural Kentucky many years ago, climbing and backpacking adventures with his friends from Glasgow, Ky. and a vivid portrait of his artist-cousin Joe Downing, an abstract painter who was better known in Europe than in the United States. Along the way, the author fondly remembers his mother’s beaten biscuits, his attempts to grow the perfect tomato, and the excitement in reaching the summit of two of the highest mountain peaks in America.
