As a young Captain in Vietnam, through my career as a Major General, I have experienced many scenes and feelings that are in Victor’s poems, Donald R. Gardner, CEO, USMC University Foundation. There is a long tradition of War poetry and now Victor Pearn’s Devil Dogs and Jarheads, belongs on the list. The same instinctive urge in these poems reminds me of the very best of Pearn’s writing, Shelby Stevenson, Editor Pembroke Magazine. The poem One Year of Grace, won a poetry contest at the University of Colorado, Boulder; it was originally published as the Prologue in their 1984 Yearbook. Garrison Keillor has read poems from Devil Dogs and Jarheads four times on The Writer’s Almanac.
