On Assignment in the Wild contains more stories of Gary and Jean’s fieldwork experiences. Seven Summers with Peregrines, the authors’ first collection of midlife adventures, focused on their participation in Peregrine Falcon reintroduction in the Rocky Mountain states. On Assignment in the Wild invites the reader to share four other adventures: Gary’s work on a portage and campsite rehabilitation crew in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, Jean’s four-and-a-half months of primitive camping as a Nestwatcher of desert-dwelling Bald Eagles in Arizona, her summer of Aplomado Falcon reintroduction work on a Texas barrier island, and Gary’s nine years of early Spring surveys of Greater Sage Grouse and Sharp-tailed Grouse in eastern Wyoming.
