Anzac Cove to Hollywood: Tom Skeyhill, Master of Deception
Jeff Brownrigg
Tom Skeyhill landed at Anzac Cove on the morning of April 25, 1915. Quickly sensing danger, he feigned blindness to escape and returned to Australia as the ‘blind poet-soldier’. He went to the US and wrote the war diary of Sergeant York, which became the film for which Gary Cooper won his first Oscar. This is Tom’s story.
