The governors of Grand Peaks Island want to attract more tourists so they draw up plans for two resorts; a rustic lodge in the valley and a mountain top chalet and they hire Big Will Alderbach and his construction crew to build them. Needless to say, Big Will is not happy to learn that the governors have already advertised that the resorts will be open on December 1st. Faced with a three month deadline, Big Will asks Emily Rose if she and her friends can do all the painting. Even though there is still bad blood between Elias Martinez and Mogo Batu, the teenagers agree to spend their weekends at the construction site. From the beginning, their efforts seem cursed. Things disappear or break and no one can figure out what’s happening until Emily discovers that Elias is sneaking around at night. She keeps their meetings a secret because she never actually sees him doing anything. As the destruction escalates, Emily wonders how she can warn her friends of danger when it comes from one of their own. And how can she explain the dark stranger that is hiding in Elias Martinez’s skin when she is the only one who has met him?
