After tragedy devastated their family, Crystal and her sister, Taylor, have been sent across the country for the summer to live with strangers, Pastor and Sister Young. Bound by guilt and shame, Crystal refuses to speak in this new environment. She merely exists, despite the living and loving all around her. Visiting relatives of the Youngs, unusual circumstances which force Pastor Young to take drastic action, and the discovery of an old diary weave the past to the present as Crystal begins to see the hand of God in all matters.
