Victoria Meadows moves from Manhattan to Twelve Lakes in upstate New York, an area dominated by thousands of acres of state parks, lakes, and steep mountain slopes. She builds a massive lodge on the edge of a grand state park and offers horseback riding and other outdoor adventures that draw an entirely new kind of tourist to this remote northern village.

When business booms, Victoria has a new set of problems. The locals resent her success and culture.
