Desert of this Beauty

In Desert of this Beauty, Lesa Caldarella explores her interior and we are graced with the treasures she finds there. Her poems are bloody and heart-crushing, rich with dark tones and piercing details, but tinged with a humor and playfulness that is refreshing throughout. Some of her themes are as grand as regret and redemption, but Caldarella’s striking sensory images and creativity of form gives everything a fresh perspective. I was alternately surprised and inspired. Many of her lines are still affecting me.

Caldarella reminds us that there is beauty to be found in seemingly barren places, and great truths to be discovered in the space of a single second. As she writes, In the marrow of this moment…is my happiness. In her wonderful poems is our peace, our salvation.
