Both of these pilots gave their lives while flying overseas in the U.S. Army Air Corp.Fighter Pilot Aces and Bomber Pilots (two of which were shot down, one becoming a POW in Japan) tell their remarkable stories. Also included is a beautifully written WW II diary by Phyllis Shauvin.Lt. Charles Gumm flew the new P-51B Mustang fighter as a bomber escort. He was the first to record a kill and the Top Ace in the 354 Group 9th Air Force when he sacrificed his life to save a village.
