The author’s writing carries in it a simplicity and directness of expression. I has a freshness and honesty which is striking. It is natural, genuine and uncontrived. This is a remarkable achievement considering the complexities inherent in the subject she embraces. This collection of her work begins with several poems that are a personal examination of what, to her, maturing love actually is. Then follows a series of poems which document the relentless misery that so often has to be endured after the fracturing of an intimate relationship by ‘the other’. The effects of being ‘dumped’ are conveyed very clearly indeed. The reader will note repetitive themes that are characteristic of this kind of raw protracted agony. The later poems document the rising out of this state and feeling a person again, in touch with a sense of self and looking outwards into life.
