As Christians, we are endowed with a God-sensitive conscience that helps us decide matters that deal with non-essentials of the Christian faith. One of these things is whether or not to eat food that is sacrificed to idols. The question which needs to be answered is whether such actions are self-serving or edifying and contribute to the general good of all believers. There is a key verse in First Corinthians chapter ten, verse thirty-three which reads: ‘in like manner, I accommodate myself to all people in all things, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that that they may be saved. Importantly, we need to understand from this commentary that God does not change, Christians need to flee from idolatry at all costs, and that in matters of non-essentials, we must not impose laws based on preference.
