Felix Varela y Morales (La Habana, Cuba, 1788 - San Agustin, Florida, Estados Unidos, 1853) tambien conocido como el Padre Varela, fue un sacerdote, maestro, escritor, filosofo y politico cubano que tuvo una importancia esencial en la vida intelectual, politica y religiosa en la Cuba de la primera mitad del siglo XIX. En este libro los escritos que escribio en su periodico EL HABANERO (Filadelfia, 1824-1825; New York, 1825-1826), considerado como la primera manifestacion revolucionaria de caracter periodistico entre los cubanos.
