When Professor Schumann was six years old, Hitler came to power in Germany. Growing up in a small town far from the centres of power and corruption - and without concentration camps - Schumann became a Nazi believer. In this memoir, the author aims to
show young Americans how easy it is, given the right historical and political circumstances, to form, control, and manipulate a whole nation - especially its young people.
Schumann analyses his life in Nazi Germany and the post-1945 experiences that finally brought him to the USA. He shows how and why he became a supporter of the Nazi regime, and demonstrates how some Germans were converted into supporters of democracy after 1945.
