Horses are not indigenous to the West. Prehistoric horses existed before humans came to the region but the horse only appeared after the Spanish Conquistadores brought their Spanish stallions to America. The arrival of the horse in the West changed forever the lives of the Native people of the region and shaped the history of the West in many ways.
