Asbestos Standard for the Construction Industry and Lead in Construction

Written by the organization enforcing the regulations, this book combines two booklets from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration on asbestos and lead in the construction industry. The first part of the book examines the requirements of the asbestos standard for the construction industry, 29 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Part 1926.1101, which regulates asbestos exposure in all construction activities. Activities covered include demolishing or salvaging structures where asbestos is present, removing or encapsulating asbestos-containing material, installing asbestos-containing products, and cleaning up asbestos spills and emergencies. The standard also includes activities that involve constructing, altering, repairing, maintaining, or renovating asbestos-containing structures and transporting, disposing, storing, containing, and housekeeping asbestos or asbestos-containing products on site. Part two of the book examines OSHA’s lead standard for the construction industry, 29 CFR Part 1926.62. This portion of the book covers lead in a variety of forms, including metallic lead, all inorganic lead compounds, and organic lead soaps.
