Eldership

Based on the declaration and affirmation that every elder takes, this invaluable resource provides new and existing elders with a diverse range of articles by leading figures in the Church of Scotland. They take you through all of the key components of eldership, providing fresh insight into each of the elements of the elder’s commitment.

Highly accessible, beautifully designed and with a strong contemporary perspective, the range of 36 contributors includes the Right Rev John Chalmers, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland; Laurence Wareing; John Swinton, Paul Nimmo and many others.

The 36 topics covered include pastoral care, reformed theology, making hospital visits, understanding the role of the Bible in the Church of Scotland, public worship and sacraments. Each topic includes an article, questions for discussion, suggestions for further reading and a ‘why not try…?’ suggestion for deepening your engagement with the topic.

The book will be integral to numerous events and online developments in the Church of Scotland in the coming year.

‘LEARN’ is a congregational learning initiative devised by the Mission & Discipleship Council of the Church of Scotland. It is actively supported by all of the Church of Scotland’s Councils. This resource forms part of a range of materials being developed to support and encourage congregations.
