Stumbling Blocks: Conquering the stuff that holds you back

Sometimes it is a friend’s pain. Sometimes it is a Big Question, the kind that leaves people staring at the carpet and muttering. Or a leader behaves disgracefully. Perhaps you wrestle with temptation, and fail utterly. Or your dad dies. Or your prayers just fall flat, and the church seems full of weirdos, and not in a good way: do you really belong in this oddball group? Or God seems just plain wrong - a friend claims guidance for something absurd; you are told you have a calling to something you detest. How do you hold on? Gavin and Anne have had it tough. They have been mocked for their faith choices. They struggled to conceive - and then their second child needed 13 blood transfusions. Close friends have abandoned their faith. Every day their work brings them into contact with hurting young people. They don’t have all the answers, but they demonstrate that it is possible to meet the questions head-on and go on growing.
