This highly illustrated edition, first published in 1989, comprises a comprehensive and indispensable history of the Jewish contribution to the British Armed Forces in the Second World War. Many were British-born or living in Britain, but large numbers of Jews in Palestine also volunteered. The Rolls of Honour contained in this book show that many of these men and women gave their lives in the war and many more were wounded. It also shows how the response from British Jews to the call to arms outsripped that of any other UK group as a percentage of the population. The book is illustrated with photographs of individual servicemen. It also includes essays by Martin Sugarman on British Jews who served in the Spanish Civil War, Jews with the Chindits, Jewish servicemen in the Korean War, Canadian and Allied Jews at the raid on Dieppe, and Jewish prisoners of war of the Germans and of the Japanese.
