Following the Great Herds: The Plains Indians and the American Buffalo

They will also learn that the Plains Indians used different methods to hunt buffalo and killed only as many buffalo as they needed. With the arrival of the white settlers, the opening of the cattle trails, and the mass killing of the buffalo herds by white hunters, tensions between the Plains Indians and the white settlers on the Great Plains eventually exploded into war.
