Townspeople and Ranchers of the California Mission Frontier takes us outside the walls of the missions to the communities that surrounded them. Pueblos and ranches played a vital role in the survival of the missions. The people who lived and worked in the towns or on the ranches supplied much of the food for the missions and presidios. The book gives a real sense of what life was like for the men, women, and children in these multi-ethnic communities.
