Fort Ticonderoga

When the French began to build a fort in 1755, they chose a point on the Ticonderoga Peninsula, called the Key to the Continent. It was built in today’s New York State, because it controlled the key waterway for transportation and trading in the region. Students learn not only about the evolution of the fort’s defenses but also about the battles fought at the fort and about American patriots Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys, who in 1775 captured the British troops while they were sleeping!
