Milton Studies: Volume 31

This volume of Milton Studies contains 10 essays that chart new directions in scholarship and criticism. Among the topics considered are: Samson as a culture hero for the New Model Army, biblical and exegetical traditions that explain the role of the Lady in Comus , and Dryden’s operatic adaptation of Paradise Lost . Other essays bring to light new material concerning Milton’s literary reception in the Oxford community of the late 17th century, and discuss 18th-century commentaries on Paradise Lost .
