This book, an intertextual study of the book of Job in general and the first cycle of poetic speeches in particular, addresses the dialogical character exhibited by the speeches of the book of Job - a subject that prior Joban scholarship has failed to explore adequately. It seeks to establish intertextuality as a method by which one can profitably examine the biblical texts. By applying this method, the study argues that the speeches in Job deliberately employ references to biblical texts - both from Job and from other books - in order to present a debate concerning divine righteousness.
