A History of the United States

The sixth volume, on the Civil War Era, of Harvard historian Edward Channing’s Great Work, A History of the United States, won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1925. Unfortunately, the series went out of print some years ago. This new volume makes the essence of Channing’s history available to a new generation of readers by reprinting highlights from each volume. Davis D. Joyce has written an extensive introduction which places Channing and his work in perspective in American historiography. Contents: I.
