The purpose of this work is to make this new edition of Katzenberger’s biography of Major David Ziegler again available and accessible. Published in the early 1900’s, this biography has long since been out of print. Born close to two and a half centuries ago in Heidelberg, Germany, David Ziegler played an important role in the American Revolution, American frontier history and in early Cincinnati history. Part One contains comments by the editor with regard to the life and work of Ziegler and the various works which have been written about him in the German and the English languages since the nineteenth century. Part Two forms the main body of the work, and contains the biography of Katzenberger. In Part Three the concluding commentary of the editor can be found. This is followed by notes with additional historical commentary by the editor.
