This study establishes a fresh approach to understanding liturgical texts in other than strictly historical terms, and paves the way for understanding the essential link between the celebration of liturgy and authentic Christian living. To search out a new methodology appropriate for the study of liturgical texts, the author draws upon Paul Ricoeur’s textual hermeneutics and linguist Roman Jakobson’s communication theory to set the parameters of the study.
