This volume contains 14 chapters covering intelligent techniques applied to signal processing and communications engineering problems. The chapters are based on a selection of topics presented at the 4th Bayona Workshop on Intelligent Methods in Signal Processing and Communications, held in Bayona, Vigo, Spain, in June 1996. The edited collection includes extended versions of six invited lectures, plus eight other contributions that seek to capture the complexity of these new techniques.
