Nineteenth Century Literature Criticism

This is a critical commentary on authors who died between 1800 and 1899. The book forms part of a series which features extensive excerpts from published criticism on the great novelists, poets, and playwrights of the 19th century. All genres and nationalities are represented, including important political, social and economic writers. Each 500-page volume presents definitive overviews of about ten authors. Entries contain biographical sketches, bibliographies for each selected critical passage, and sources for additional reading on the author. Taken together, the carefully selected passages within each author entry represent the entire scope of response of that author’s works by critics writing in English and by foreign critics in translation.
