Twentieth Century Literary Criticism

Contains excerpts from the best criticism on the great novelists, poets, and playwrights from 1900-1959. Each 500-page volume of TCLC presents overviews of 15 auathors with chronologically arranged critical excerpts representing the entire range of response to each author. A typical excerpt is prefaced by a note explaining the critic’s reputation and critical philosophy, his or her importance, and a synopsis of the excerpt. Starting with Vol.35, the first TCLC volume published every year contains a cumulative title index to the entire series. The second and third volumes of the year contain indexes to the individual volume. The last volume of the year contains topic, nationality, and author indexes.
