Oklahoma Bird Life

From water birds to birds of prey to the complex order of perching birds, Oklahoma is remarkable for the variety and extent of its bird life. This book provides background for the study of birds, including chapters on the history of ornithology in the state, seasonal and regional distribution of birds, ecology, ways to attract and study birds, bird banding and breeding bird surveys. The second section of this book consists of summaries of the status and distribution of birds in Oklahoma, in taxonomic order, paired with descriptions of the birds in their natural habitats. Other sections of the book look at stragglers and species no longer found in Oklahoma, birds’ nests, foreign recoveries of banded birds, a list of agencies and organisations concerned with birds, and lists of recommended reading for adults and children.
