The invited contributions which make up this book cover a range of interconnected topics in management science. The papers were presented in a conference held at the IC2 Institute of the University of Texas in Austin in October of 1987. All of the papers have been written by scholars whose work in areas ranging from engineering, through economics, management and many other social, managerial and natural sciences has been influenced by Dr Abraham Charnes. In addition to the theoretical contributions a number of applied papers are included in the volume. The first section of the book contains papers which provide insight and perspective on the educational and administrative topics they address. Section Two describes and interprets Dr Abraham Charnes’ contributions to marketing, human resource planning, statistics and engineering. Succeeding sections contain more technical-mathematical papers. Dr Charnes’ research has influenced a variety of mathematical areas; the volume contains papers in semi-infinite programming, linear and nonlinear programming and game theory.
