These proceedings consist of the latest advances in the field of monitoring and modelling urban air quality. Although air pollution has been of interest for many decades, over the past few years the concerns of urban air quality have increased dramatically. The primary reason for this has been the continual growth in road traffic in almost all urban centres in the world. Consequently, the need for reliable methods for monitoring and modelling urban air quality has now been identified as a priority by many national and local governments. The current proceedings include the papers presented at the first international conference on this topic. The success of this conference has led to the organization of the second meeting in Madrid, 3-5 March, 1999.
