This book was created to preserve the common memories of the Scott family of Shrewsbury, New Jersey. Records of families related by intermarriage have to some extent been included so far as they represent lines of ancestry down to the time of intermarriage. The names of nearly one thousand descendants of the William Scott who first settled in Shrewsbury are to be found in this book and yet the list is far from complete. The author gleaned information from public records, church records, tombstone inscriptions, newspaper clippings, family Bibles, and other private records. Every person born in the Scott family is numbered in this book. Chapters include: William Scott and Abigail Tilton Warner, with William Scott ancestry and the Tilton family; John Scott and Mary Bills, with the will of John Scott, the Bills family, and the Twining family; George Crawford and Esther Scott, with the Crawford family, the Shepherd family, and the Bowne family; Abraham White and Mehitable Scott; William Scott and Mary Runnels, with the Throckmorton family, the Holmes family, and the VanBrunt family; John White and Mary Scott; Samuel Scott and Amy Borden; John Scott and Ruth Stockton; and, Ebenezer Scott and Patience Leonard. In addition, this book contains a number of illustrations, a family chart, an appendix, and a complete index of persons containing over two thousand names.
