Beginning with the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, and the conditions and characteristics of the British-American colonies in Canada in 1750, the author lays the background for the French designs against British expansion. He then proceeds to describe the various clashes between the two European powers in America, including the fight at Great Meadows, Braddock’s Expedition, and Johnson’s futile campaign on Lake George that led to the formal declaration of war between France and England in May, 1756.
