In his first collection of Cycle C sermons for Pentecost through Proper 12, Robert C. Cochran reminds us that the spirit of God lives in and through us, unbound by our religious perceptions and recognized when we await for the Spirit with expectation. As he encourages us to pursue lives that reflect God’s love, mercy, and goodness, Cochran balances scripture with personal experience. Introducing us to a Holy Spirit who defends, teaches, motivates, uplifts, and unites, Cochran’s sermons merge truths found throughout the ancient pages of Scripture with present-day relevance and urgency. Designed as a sermon resource, Spirit Works can also be used as a devotional for small group or private study.
Sermon Titles Include:
Pastor Cochran spent 13 years grading college English papers and working toward a PhD in English Literature before graduating from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio and taking a call to full-time parish ministry in Fruitport, Michigan. Since then, he served as a campus pastor at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo (where he graded more undergraduate English papers as a part-time instructor) before accepting his current position as Senior Pastor at First Lutheran Church in his hometown of Findlay, Ohio. He also began to teach English at the University of Findlay, where his wife, Pam is pursuing a master’s degree in Rhetoric and Writing. Bob is living proof that 1) you can go home again and 2) there’s a name for teachers who become preachers: teacher. He has always maintained that his call to the ministry is the surest proof we have that God has a sense of humor!
