The Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture, 2005-2006

This is an anthology of 16 papers, presented at the Seventeenth Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture in June 2005 and presented at the Eighteenth in June 2006. All sessions of the 2006 Symposium were held at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Selected from approximately 90 papers delivered at both symposia, the essays represent the finest scholarship from two conferences. The essays are divided into six sections.

Autobiography: Baseball Lives
examines baseball during the Depression-Era and the challenge of eliminating Katrina’s aftermath.
The Business of Baseball
offers three essays on topics ranging from cleaning up the steroid mess to the impact of free agency which has been mostly guesswork, until now.
